First of all, thank you so much to the San Francisco Visitors Bureau for the perfect SF weekend getaway, including gift cards to Westfield and Thirsty Bear. Also, thanks to all of you who followed along as I played tourist in my hometown. The Queen Anne may only be two miles from my house, but it felt like a million miles and another lifetime, which was exactly what I needed. Most of all, I'd like to thank the magical four poster bed in room 311.
I thought I'd finish my weekend of posts with a list of some of my favorite things that are Only in San Francisco. Feel free to add your own favorites in the comments!
1. Favorite Burger: This is a controversial subject, of course, but I am going with the Balboa Burger on Baguette served with housemade pickles and french fries. I always add cheddar and order medium rare. (http://www.balboacafe.com/)
2. Favorite Dessert: Bi-Rite Creamery. Toasted coconut in a waffle cone, please. (http://biritecreamery.com/)
3. Favorite View: Crissy Field. The Golden Gate Bridge, Fort Point, Alacatraz, The Palace of Fine Arts, the Transamerica Building... Can't beat it. (http://www.parksconservancy.org/our-work/crissy/)
4. Favorite Mexican: I honestly don't even want to post this one because Mexican food riles up such passion in people, but I'm going with Puerto Alegre for their cheap prices, pitchers of margaritas and lively atmosphere.
5. Favorite neighborhood restaurant: This one will shock you: Zazie. I'm sorry, but the food, staff, atmosphere and service is just the best ever. (http://zaziesf.com/)
6. Favorite cocktail: Seriously, how can I even choose? I'm going with Alembic since it's close to my house (Upper Haight), has passionate mixologists and small plates of innovate and delicious food. (Ok, this was only supposed to be about cocktails, but sometimes you need to pair the two.) (http://www.alembicbar.com/)
7. Favorite glass of wine in SOMA: Bacar. $5/glass happy hour and $1 oysters on Fridays. Plus, it's a block from my work and has a friendly staff. (http://bacarsf.com/)
8. Favorite glass of wine in Hayes Valley: Absinthe Bar & Brasserie. Again, amazing selection and they have oysters. (http://www.absinthe.com/)
9. Favorite glass of wine in Cole Valley: EOS. I prefer the Wine Salon (next door) at happy hour. $10 for 375mL and $1 oysters from 5:30 - 7:00. (http://www.eossf.com/)
10. Favorite pedicure: Polished Lounge. Shabby chic is never my thing, but this place is just too cute and the staff is so friendly. (http://www.polishedlounge.com/)
11. Favorite salon: Mercer Street. Ask for Lana. But I'd better not be able to get an appointment after telling you this! (http://www.mercerstreetsalon.com/)
12. Favorite boutique: Metier. Super chic. Enough said. (http://www.metiersf.com/)
13. Favorite landmark: The Golden Gate Bridge. There's a reason it's on every postcard.
14. Favorite tourist attraction: Alcatraz. Duh.
15. Favorite local website: SFist. Great local news and lists of things to do around the city. (http://sfist.com/)
16. Favorite macaroni and cheese: Luna Park. Order the oven baked mac and cheese with broccoli, the little gems salad with roasted beets and either the coconut cream pie or the bananas foster with banana ice cream. The perfect indulgent meal. (http://www.lunaparksf.com/)
17. Favorite outdoor adventure: Muir Woods. Keep your eyes peeled for Ewoks.
18. Favorite indoor adventure: I'm a sucker for the Exploratorium and now they have an "After Dark" event on the first Thursday of each month! (http://www.exploratorium.edu/)
19. Favorite bookstore: Booksmith on Haight Street. (http://www.booksmith.com/)
20. Favorite concert venue: The Fillmore.
There you have it... Happy Stalking! (I kid, I kid.)
[this is good]
Great list!
Puerto Alegre??? Unsubscribe.
Other than that, great list. ;)
Thanks for sharing. :)
Kimmie - To be honest, I was kind of at a loss for my favorite Mexican place since I don't eat a ton of Mexican. Basically to me, good Mexican = cheap margaritas. Also: My family seriously goes to La Barca on Lombard Street for EVERY SINGLE BIRTHDAY, but I knew if I included that in my list, I'd be skewered.
